Jane and Mommy feed the zoo animals

Jane is so fun to take to the zoo!  She notices everything and tells stories about what she sees at the zoo for weeks and months (yes MONTHS) afterwards.  Today, we decided to feed the giraffes.  For a mere $5.00, you get to give the giraffes 2 leaves.  Jane was SO interested in this experience.  I thought she might be scared but she wasn't!  She had a big grin on her face the entire time.  She didn't want to hold the leaves out for the giraffes but insisted that "MA!" do it.  She has talked about this all day. It is SO cute to see her impression of the giraffes tongue (especially since she is tongue-tied and can't stick her tongue out that far).

The elephants are Jane's favorite.  You can feed the elephants leaves as well, but their feeding time is during nap time, unfortunately.  Today Bamboo (the smartest elephant at the zoo) used her trunk to dig in the dirt and then threw the dirt up on her back and stomach.  Jane watched and giggled away at Bamboo.   She talked about this more than the giraffe feeding experience.  I have a feeling we will be talking about this for months to come!

We also fed the birds.  I wasn't planning on doing this.  This past weekend, Erik and I both took Jane to the zoo.  Erik fed the birds but Jane was pretty scared the whole time and wouldn't hold the stick.  We walked by the bird building, which is kind of hidden and isn't marked well, and Jane signed "birds".  Of course she remembered this--nothing gets past her.   I asked her if she wanted to feed the birds and she said yes.  And she actually meant it.  She wasn't hesitant at all this time!  Our shy girl just needs to warm up to new situations and experiences.
