Happy 11 months (posted late)

Sol Bol turned 11 months on Christmas.  This was a big moment in our household, as this will be the last calendar photo shoot.  Solly turns ONE in just a few weeks!

Solly had some big milestones this past month.  He learned to stand on his own.  There is a video HERE taken when he first learned to stand. He is now a really proficient stander. I encourage him to try to take a step, but as Jane Says, "Solly not interested."  Solly also learned words. Of course, my mama heart is happy to report that I am his first word!  He calls for me "mama" when he wants to be picked up, when he first sees me, when I leave the room, ect. Shortly after, he learned a second word ("das", which is what Jane called nursing when she was a baby so we have always termed it that as well).  I didn't think Solly would be interested in nursing for an entire year, but he has recently become obsessed, often trying to help himself.  Honestly, I'm ready for a break.  I've had a nursing child (or 2) for almost 3 years.

Solly is a true boy.  He gravitates towards boy toys--cars, trucks, and balls.  He loves to climb on everything, wrestle, knock things over, and play rough.  Solly can hold his own with Jane.  He tattles on her (by looking at Erik and me and whining) when she takes something from him.  And he is such a big guy that he rarely flinches when Jane runs into him.  But Jane and Sol really are great friends!  Jane asks for Sol first thing and the morning and almost always wants Sol down on the floor playing with her.  Solly wants to play whatever Jane is playing with, looks for her when he wakes up from his nap, and laughs at her antics like he laughs at nothing else. Other favorite activities... Solly enjoys reading books.  His favorite books are interactive books (like lift the flap and touch feel) but he is starting to really like normal books as well.  Sol also likes to be outside.  We go outside nearly every day, even in the rain (like true Seattlelites!).

Solly also turned into quite the mama's boy this past month.  It took me by surprise, as he was not a mama's baby like his sister was (and is).  I need to be more aware of his desire to be in my arms or within arms reach at all times.  He can be pretty distraught if I move across the room (or worse, leave the room) without him.  I could only snap a couple of photos during our monthly photo shoot before this little one was pulling himself up on me with demands to be picked up.  Of course I love his love and desire to be snuggled, but it can make the day-to-day challenging at times.

Solly also turned into a cuddler this past month, a truechange for him (love it!).  He is also quite the kisser.  He often coveres Jane, Erik, and me with open-mouth slobbery kisses.

Love what a big guy this tiny baby has grown into!

Video: the kids and some of their Christmas toys

I posted a video of the kids trying out some of their new Christmas toys.  Special thanks to Parker for the basketball hoop and Grammy and Grandpa for the scooter.  Jane got the yoyo and hula hoop from Santa. Of course she is too young for them, but she has been asking for these two things for months.  And she finally got them!  I think she does a pretty good job with them!  At the end of the video, Erik is pushing the kids in Bilibo chairs (just one of Santa's many great deals on Amazon).  Enjoy the video.

Christmas pictures coming soon.

Santa Train

We took the kids on the Polar Express/Santa train near Mt Rainier. Both of the kids had such a good time on the train.  Both kids loved looking out the window at the beautiful scenery.  Solly was such a little chatterbox. Jane kept asking where we were going and wanted us to say, "Why...to the North Pole of course!" (just like in the book and movie)

We had some good conversations about Christmas Eve.  Jane proposed, "How about I just open all the presents, yes, all them, everyone's!"  No Jane, everyone can open their own presents but you can hand them out.  "How about I just help Solly a little bit."  No, Solly does not need any help. "Well, how about I just play with everyone's toys first, try them out first!"  Oh my goodness, this girl is too much!

Sol looks so *OLD* in this picture!

And what's a Santa train without Santa!  We did not make Jane sit on Santa's lap or talk to him.  Since we already tortured her once this season, we respected her wishes.

I thought Sol would be okay with Santa.  But in the past few weeks, Solly turned into a BIG mama's boy.  He hold his hands up and whines, "mamamama!" until he gets picked up.  But this face! Love it!

VIDEO: Jane and Solly wrestle

Another video from November!  Solly LOVES to wrestle with Jane.  They weigh about the same so no one gets hurt!  Solly is kind of rough but Jane LOVES it!  You'll see in the first video clip that she gets mad when he's done wrestling.  Sometimes Jane will lay in Solly's lap and ask him to "get me!"  Love these silly kids!

I took these videos of Sol Bol in November and of course am just now getting to them.  Life with 2 small kids, what can I say?!?

my 31st birthday (yesterday)

We woke up to SNOW!  Jane was SO excited!  We went out to play before it was even light out!

Solly was excited about the snowflakes at first, but he quickly got annoyed with the cold and hat.

We spent the day playing at home, as snow in Seattle causes everything to close down.  I was cranky due to sheetrock dust that COVERED OUR ENTIRE HOUSE from repair work the day before.  The cleaners (paid for by the builders!) finally showed up around 1:00 to clean the entire house.  Jane and I made a birhday cake and we had a little family birthday party after dinner.

I had a little help blowing out my candles and opening my presents!  This picture is a little out of focus but I really love everyone's faces.  Solly is going to love his 1 year old birthday cake smash.  He got his hands into my cake several times.

WOOO! Thirty-one...!!

My many photo card fails

You think after the trouble that I had last year with 1 kid, I would have started the Christmas card photos earlier this year.  But I didn't.  We did 3 different photo shoots on 3 different days.  That's 3 different days of making sure their coordinating outfits were clean.  And 3 different days of making sure Jane's beautiful hair was freshly washed so that it didn't look like a tangled mess, as it usually does. Next year, I am taking photos after Halloween!  Anyway, we ended up using a picture that I took after Sol escaped from a photo shoot and crawled up the stairs.  There's nothing Christmasy about it.  But the kids are both looking at me.  And they are wearing matching outfits.  And Jane's hair is freshly washed. So I'd say that's a win! I  ordered cards today and will keep the actual card a surprise.  For now, enjoy the outtakes!

Attempt #1, so this one isn't that bad, but Solly looks funny

Solly kept crawling away, so I got some baskets

love the interaction but I wanted these two to look at mama and SMILE!

Attempt #2, this setup didn't last long

Attempt #3, A trip to Michaels for the frame and chalkboard and bead garland to distract the kidos....

not looking so merry here, my sweet children!

Love his face here, "SERIOUSLY, Mom!"  After he shot me this face I gave him some lights to play with.

Jane and Solly see Santa

We did not go to San Diego this year for Christmas, so we had to find a new Santa.  We found one at the mall and they even let us take our own pictures, surprisingly!  Anyway, the Santa visit did not go so well.  Erik set Sol on Santa's lap.  Jane was screaming, "NO ME NOT WANT TO SIT ON SANTA'S LAP!!"

Sol was ok wih Santa, not thrilled, but doing fine.

And then, Jane joined him on Santa's lap.  And he lost it, too.
Notice how he looks at Jane for her reaction.

And finally, a 3 year comparison.  LOVE this!

Jane says that maybe next year she won't cry when she sits on Santa's lap. But I don't mind if she screams.  I think those pictures are super adorable, too!  Sorry for torturing you, my sweet children.  One day I hope you love these photos as much as I do!
