Solly's monthly pics (newborn)
Solomon is a pretty easy baby. He sleeps most of the day AND night! He doesn't mind when his sister pokes at him and he loves to cuddle. He also doesn't even mind the car seat. Solly really only cries when getting dressed or a has his diaper changed. He also hates baths. Solly looks just like Jane but they are SO different. Solly sleeps with me right now but we plan to move him to his crib in a few weeks. We are so in love with this sweet baby boy!

Jane meets Solly
A little late in posting...Jane met Solly briefly the night he was born before Daddy took her home. She was so groggy, though I'm not sure how much she remembers. These photos were taken the morning after Solly was born (1/26). Jane was pretty interested in looking at (and poking) all of his little features. She even gave him a big hug and kiss. Solly was such a trouper...he tolerated all the pokes without a peep. Jane also liked mimicking his little newborn noises. It was pretty adorable!

He's HERE!!
Solomon David Sapper was born at 11:08 PM on January 25th. I pushed for 4 whole hours with Janers but little Solly came out after only 15 minutes. It was wonderful! Solly looks just like Jane...their facial expressions are identical. We will take and post more photos tomorrow so check back!
Solly and Mommy right after Solly's birth
little Solly weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces and is 19 inches long.
We brought Jane to the birthing center with us. We planned on having my mom stay with Jane...my mom comes to Seattle tomorrow afternoon. Then we were going to have one of our friends stay with her...but Jane gets so fussy for her mama at night that we thought it best just to take her with us. Jane was a trouper and Erik did a fantastic job entertaining her while I labored away. Jane fell asleep shortly after 10:00, well before I had to start pushing. She slept on the couch sleeper in the same room we had Solly. Amazingly, our terrible sleeper slept through the entire birth. Here she is passed out on the sofa sleeper. Erik took her home around 2:00 AM. This is my first night away from my sweet girl and I miss her!
Solly and Daddy
Right now Solly is sleeping in the bassinet right next to my bed, something Jane certainly never did! Here's hoping the little guy is a better sleeper than his sister!

enjoying our last days of being a twosome
I am 38 weeks tomorrow. I expect baby boy will come sometime next week! Jane and I enjoyed our last week alone together. Erik will be home tomorrow, my mom comes on Saturday, and baby boy will (hopefully) be born sometime soon! So today was the last day of just Jane and Mommy. So bittersweet!

building our house--front step pictures
We took pictures on the front steps throughout the building process. We made it up to the house about every month to check out the progress made on the house or meet with the builders. It's pretty amazing to think that the house was completed in just a little over 4 months!
August--foundation complete
September--framing complete
October--drywall complete
December 17th--house complete!! Looking for things that needed to be fixed before closing
January--our house!! We are checking out the rare Seattle snow.

Happy 22 months!
This is the last month birthday that Jane will enjoy as an only. Jane is not ready for this change! Jane shakes her head no at the mention of baby brother. In a lot of ways, I feel so sad for the changes this little one is about to go through. Although very opinionated and independent, Jane is still a baby herself and the biggest mama's girl I have ever seen. Today when Jane requested to be carried, I asked her who was going to carry baby brother if mama was going to carry Jane...to which Jane replied, "DA!" So I guess it will be Dad and baby brother and Mom and Jane because it's going to take Jane a long time to learn to share her mom. Jane still nurses throughout the day and sleeps snuggled right up against me from about midnight on. I hope my baby girl adjusts quickly to our new addition but we are anticipating and bracing ourselves for a rocky transition.
Interested in a comparison....20 month update here.

2012 in review
(late I know...we just got internet a few days ago and things have been crazy busy here...click on the links to see the original blog posts and more pictures. it's crazy to think that Jane was still a baby 1 year ago and now she is a big toddler...)
January
Janers turns 10 months
We got snow in Seattle! This was Jane's first real exposure to snow since MN wasn't snowy over Christmas. See pics here and here.
February
Erik traveled to San Luis Obispo, CA for work. Jen and Jane went along. It was a fantastic trip and so fun to be back in our old CA town! Dave, Karen, and Judy also met us there for the weekend. See pics here, here, here, here, and here.
Janers turned 11 months and learns to stand alone
We are told we will be able to set a closing date on our house before the end of the month. We start packing.
March
Jane starts walking ON her first birthday and my parents and Parker come to Seattle for a visit
April
We take a family trip to Bend, Oregon to attend our friends' wedding.
Jane was really into Easter this year and Jane turns into an artist (and here)!
May
Still no word on the house and feeling antsy, so we take a weekend road trip to the Oregon Coast (and here) over Mother's Day weekend.
Jane becomes interested in looking at the animals in the zoo and our little artist continues to create (and here).
June
Jen is pregnant! Woop Woop!!
July
Jen and Jane go to MN and spend a week at my parents' cabin.
Erik went to a conference near Mt Hood, OR. Jen and Jane tag along.
After nearly 9 months, we received bad news about the house--the sellers' bank REJECTED the sale. I was crushed. We were back to house hunting. It sucked!
August
We looked and looked and didn't find an existing home that we liked. And of course the market recovered slightly since we started looking a year ago. It was so discouraging to look at houses that were 20-30K more in worse condition and in locations that were less than ideal than the place we waited on for so long. We found a new home development that we LOVED and decided to build. It would mean waiting several more months for a house, but the builders said it would be likely that we would be in before Christmas and guaranteed a closing date by the end of the year. Below is a picture of the foundation, taken from the back of the house. I didn't blog about the progress because I was so worried something would go wrong. Building pictures to come.
Jane and Jen went to MN again to meet Katie's new baby. We also spent another long weekend at my parents' cabin.
September
We find out that we are having a BOY!
October
Erik's travel really picked up in September and October, so my mom came to Seattle to keep Jane and me company.
Jane was the most adorable little elephant (and here) for Halloween. She LOVED picking pumpkins, carving pumpkins, and trick or treating!
November
Erik travels to Australia for 10 days, leaving Jane and me home to fend for ourselves! Erik turns 30 (in Australia); we celebrated before he left.
We spent Thanksgiving with Erik's family in San Diego. I never did get around to blogging the pictures due to space issues with blogger (which I solved thanks to Erik's coworker!). We had a great time--we went to the beach, spent time with family, visited Sea World, explored the zoo...
December
Erik Sapper, PhD
Erik successfully defended his dissertation!!!
Erik was gone for 2 straight weeks (Fargo, San Diego, and Paris), so Jane and I headed to MN to visit family. Janers loved the snow!
Jen turns 30.
[pics to come; waiting for my mom to send me some]
